What is fabric? Or more importantly, what counts as fabric? What is our definition and criteria for something so heavily used and often overlooked in everyday life?

This exhibition is a series of questions in the form of physical materials, that challenge our notions about fabric, and what it should be. Our judgment is naturally influenced by our experiences that develop associations between texture, colour, form, and the identity of an object. So all of us will have differing opinions on this subject. Add context and application into the equation and the identity of fabric becomes even more flexible.

The show was at The Mill during Singapore Design Week 2018, as part of City Ramble Design Trail.

This will be an ongoing project, as more materials will be added to this library of (arguably) fabric samples.

The woven pieces are deliberately presented in pairs. One of them can easily pass off as fabric, while the other is an extreme version of the concept. The viewer is then inclined to re-evaluate his/ her definition of fabric. A combination of copper foil and acrylic yarn was used in one such pair.
